
Liberty Shuts Down UConn 3-0

Liberty right-hander Karlie Keeney tossed a two-hit shutout as the Lady Flames blanked UConn 3-0 on Saturday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames (7-9) have won six straight game, including back-to-back shutouts of Iona and UConn today at the Liberty Softball Invitational. UConn falls to 7-6, snapping a two-game winning streak.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit UConn 6-2 for the game, with the Huskies committing the game’s lone error. The Lady Flames left five runners on base while UConn stranded two.
- Karlie Keeney (4-5) tossed her second shutout of the season, striking out seven and walking none in a two-hit shutout.
- Payton Kinney (1-4) drew the loss, allowing one run on two hits, walking two and striking out one in two innings pitched. Hope Jenkins allowed two runs on four hits, striking out three in four innings of relief.
- KK Madrey batted 2-or-2 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Rachel Roupe (1-for-2) stole two bases. Megan Fortner (1-for-3) recorded her first hit as a Lady Flame and also scored a run.
Turning Point
- Liberty loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning. After a popout, Soto lined a shot to left field that was caught by Kaitlyn Kibling. Howard hustled home to score the first run of the game.
- The Lady Flames added two runs on the fourth on Madrey’s two-run single, providing more than enough run support for Keeney who cruised to the shutout.

- Today was the first-ever meeting between Liberty and UConn in softball.
