
Liberty Defeats McNeese, Houston, Pushes Winning Streak to 7

HOUSTON, Texas - Liberty swept McNeese (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) before posting a 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 16-14) win over Houston, Friday at Houston's Fertitta Center.
The Lady Flames (11-1) pushed their winning streak to seven matches, while Houston falls to 5-4 with its fourth straight loss. McNeese (4-7) was swept by both Liberty and North Alabama today at the Cougar Challenge.
Tonight marked Liberty's first win over a Big 12 team in program history (at time of meeting). Earlier this season, the Lady Flames beat Rutgers in five set for their first win over a Big 10 program.

The Lady Flames wrap up nonconference play tomorrow against North Alabama, with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. CT).

Liberty vs. McNeese
- Liberty overcame an 18-15 deficit in the second set, rallying to win 25-22. The Lady Flames then burst out to a 10-1 led in set three, and despite a late rally, the Cowgirls were unable to overcome the margin and extend the match.
- Liberty outhit McNeese .323-.212 for the match, with the Lady Flames leading in kills (53-34), aces (4-1), digs (53-44) and blocks (8-6). Â
- Jenna Otts led all players with 15 kills, while Paige Overcash scored 12 kills and Carly O'Brien totaled 11 kills and a match-high 13 digs. Alison Bierwagen posted her seventh double-double of the season, with 31 assists and 10 digs. Zoe Hall sent down seven kills, while Laney Daniell contributed five kills and a match-high six blocks.
- D'Nari Mills scored 13 kills for McNeese, while Kinga Ziolkowska totaled 29 assists and 12 digs. Lauren Fuller collected 10 digs.
- Liberty and McNeese met for the first time in volleyball today.
- Liberty Head Coach Jeremy White coached against his alma mater. A two-time graduate of McNeese (2008, 2016), he was also an assistant at McNeese in 2015 and 2016. White is 11-2 all-time against McNeese, winning each of the last eight meetings.
- The Lady Flames hit .300 or better for the fifth time this season, their most .300 matches since 2022, when they hit .300+ on 11 occasions.
- Liberty posted its fifth 3-0 sweep of the season.
- Houston held a 2-1 match lead and led set four by as many as five points, 15-10, before the Lady Flames rallied to win, 26-24. Liberty cashed in on its third match-point try, as an attack error by Bre Reid ended the match, 16-14.
- Houston outhit Liberty .284-.220 for the match. The Lady Flames led in kills (73-66), aces (8-3) and digs (80-70), while the Cougars led 14-6 in blocks. The hosts committed 12 service errors, compared to five for the guests.
- O'Brien scored a career-high 31 kills and added three aces and 18 digs, while Jenna Otts scored 16 kills and Paige Overcash recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Alison Bierwagen totaled 46 assists and nine digs, while Zoe Hall contributed six kills and five blocks and Laney Daniell scored seven kills.
- For Houston, Bre Reid registered 22 kills, while Barakat Rahmon recorded 13 kills (.684) and eight blocks. Alana Torres-Rivera collected a match-high 20 digs.
- Liberty and Houston are tied at 1-1 in the all-time series, with the Cougars sweeping the Lady Flames, 3-0, on Sept. 14, 2023 in College Station, Texas.
- Liberty is 5-0 in five-set matches this season, while Houston is 1-1 in five-set contests. Four out of five of Liberty's fifth-set victories have been decided by just two points.
- O'Brien broke Overcash's program single-match 25-point rally-scoring record with 31 kills tonight. Overcash scored 30 kills against East Carolina last Saturday. Â
- O'Brien posted her third double-double in a row and sixth of the season.
- Liberty's current seven-match winning streak is its longest since winning the first eight games of the 2023 season.
- Liberty is 9-5 in sets decided by two points this season.Â
