
Liberty Rallies for 3-2 Win Over Radford in Home Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty battled back from a 2-1 match deficit to down the visiting Radford Highlanders in five sets (25-16, 18-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13), Monday at Liberty Arena.
The Lady Flames ran their winning streak to five matches and are off to their best 10-match start in program history, at 9-1. Meanwhile, the Highlanders fall to 2-8 with their second straight loss.

The Lady Flames head to Houston, Texas, to compete in an invitational hosted by Houston, Friday and Saturday. While there, Liberty will take on McNeese, Houston and North Alabama. Â Â

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit Radford, .286-199, for the match, also leading in kills (64-61) and aces. The Highlanders held a 70-65 edge in digs, while both teams posted eight blocks.
- Carly O'Brien led all players with a career-high-tying 19 kills to go along with 11 digs. Jenna Otts followed with 18 kills, while Paige Overcash sent down 16 kills. Alison Bierwagen dished out 44 assists, while Shyia Richardson tied her career high with 16 digs and Aubrey Acheson collected a career-high 15 digs. Layla Collins chipped in with four kills and four blocks.
- Radford had three players reach double figures in kills in Olivia Ryno (16), Rylee Sloss (13) and Aubrey Hatch (12). Miranda Howard collected a match-high 22 digs, while Taryn Roberts led all players with five blocks.
- Liberty trailed the match, 2-1, before winning set four 25-21 to force a fifth set.
- The Lady Flames led by just one point, 7-6, before a pair of Otts kills and Bierwagen ace keyed a 4-0 Liberty run for an 11-6 cushion. Trailing 14-11, Radford fought off a pair of match-point tries. However, O'Brien's match-high 19th kill of the contest sealed the 15-13 set-five win and 3-2 match victory.
- Liberty leads Radford 47-33 in the all-time series, with the Lady Flames winning each of the last two matches. Radford is Liberty's most common opponent in volleyball.
- Liberty is 4-0 in five-set matches this season, while this was Radford's first five-set contest of 2025.
- O'Brien tied her career high with 19 kills, as she also had 19 kills in Liberty's 3-2 win over East Carolina on Saturday.
- Overcash, named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week today for the third week in a row, has scored 15 or more kills in each of her last four matches.
