The No. 11-ranked Lady Flames field hockey team will host Queens for a home match, Sunday afternoon.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two squads. Liberty (2-2) will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid. The Lady Flames fell 3-0 at No. 1 Northwestern, Friday. Meanwhile, Queens (0-4) is in search of its first victory of the season. The Royals lost 6-0 at VCU on Friday.
Prior to Sunday’s game, the Liberty field hockey program will honor its first inductee into the Liberty Athletics Hall of Fame, Natalie Barr (2012-15). Barr was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday evening in the Alumni Ballroom of the Montview Student Union building.
Lady Flames News and Notes• Liberty will be looking to end a two-game losing streak. Prior to its current two-game skid, the Lady Flames last lost back-to-back games early in the fall 2021 season to No. 5 Northwestern and No. 6 Louisville (Sept. 7 and 12, 2021).
• Sunday’s contest will mark the Lady Flames’ second game on its new pitch at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. The Poligras Platinum system that Liberty will be playing on was used at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and in Rio in 2016, and it’s one of AstroTurf®’s most widely-used products worldwide.
• Despite dropping its last two games, Liberty is still outscoring its counterparts 11-4 this season. The Lady Flames’ Daniella Rhodes leads the way with a team-best four goals, one assists, and a team-high nine points. Forward Lizzie Hamlett is tied for second on the squad in goals (2), tied for first in assists (2) and is second in points (2).
• Hamlett was the last Liberty player to score a goal at the Liberty Field Hockey Field, doing so against No. 16 Old Dominion on Oct. 19, 2021. Her goal with 39 seconds left gave the Lady Flames a 2-1 win over the Monarchs and their first BIG EAST regular season crown in program history.
• This weekend marks the first time Liberty will play a road game on Friday and a home contest on Sunday, this season. The Lady Flames will do so this two more times this year – Sept. 23/25 (Connecticut away, Longwood home) and Oct. 7/9 (Villanova away, Louisville home).
