
Liberty Swimming Defeats Gardner-Webb, 119-86

The Liberty swimming team claimed a 119-86 victory over Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association opponent Gardner-Webb, Friday at Bost Pool.
The Lady Flames (6-2, 3-1 CCSA) recorded a sweep of the 400 freestyle relay to close out their sixth dual-meet win of the season. Gardner-Webb now holds a 4-5 record, including a 3-3 mark in conference action.
Liberty's swimmers won seven individual events, compared to two individual victories by the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay. The hosts also posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 breast.
In relay swims, Liberty's A team finished second in the 400 medley relay in a season-best time of 3:59.12. The Lady Flames scored first and second in the meet-ending 400 free relay. Liberty's first relay went 3:36.51, followed by its second team, in 3:39.26.
Emily Duff won the 400 individual medley in 4:36.56.
Margaret Riel then posted a 200 free victory, swimming 1:57.38. Sarah McCorkle followed in second place with a time of 1:59.59.
Meghan Babcock swam a 24.37 to win the 50 free, and Chloe Thomas followed in second at 25.50.
Bethany Wakeley came from behind to win the 200 fly, edging Cjay Wiley by 0.23 seconds, 2:11.25 to 2:11.48.
Marley Cripe touched the wall first in the 100 free, in 53.89. Babcock finished second in 54.32.
Erin Curry claimed victory in the 200 back with a 2:08.43. Brye Ravettine came in third in 2:11.92.
Liberty went 1-2-3 in the 500 free, as Duff won in 5:14.43, followed by Riel (5:16.55) and Emily Mudd (5:25.92) in that order.
Liberty will next compete at the Davidson Duals tomorrow. Saturday's meet, which is set to begin at 1 p.m., will see the Lady Flames face six conference opponents in their final regular season event.
