
Lady Flames Sweep Davidson Duals

Liberty used a 1-2 finish in the meet-ending 400 free relay to edge Georgia Southern, 148-146, earning the Lady Flames a 6-0 record at the Davidson Duals, held Saturday at Davidson's Cannon Natatorium.
Liberty closed out its regular season by defeating six CCSA opponents on Saturday, to advance its record to 12-2 in dual meets. The Lady Flames defeated host and defending CCSA runner-up Davidson, 160.5-133.5. The host Wildcats finished in second at the meet, with a 5-1 mark.
The Lady Flames won 10 out of 14 events contested at the meet, including both relays.
Freshman Emily Duff set a pair of program records, winning one event in the process. Duff swam a Liberty-record 10:36.29 in the 1000 free, finishing third, just 0.90 seconds out of first. She won the 200 back with a program- and lifetime-best 2:06.86. Duff also earned victory in the 200 IM, clocking a 2:10.16.
Liberty trailed Georgia Southern by 11 points going into the final event, and the Lady Flames went 1-2 in the 400 free relay to defeat the Eagles. Liberty's relays swam 3:35.89 and 3:36.00.
The Lady Flames opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:49.87.
Bethany Wakeley claimed first place in both the 100 and 200 fly. She swam 58.40 to win the 100 fly and posted a 2:09.67 in a 200 fly victory.
Brye Ravettine won a pair of individual events, the 50 and 100 free. Ravettine raced 23.69 in the 50 free and 53.09 in the 100 free.
Margaret Riel edged Devan White of Georgia Southern, 1:57.17 to 1:57.22, to place first in the 200 free. Marley Cripe followed with a 100-back victory in 1:00.26.
Cori Gary placed second in the 100 free in 53.80. Erin Curry posted third place finishes in the 200 back (2:08.81) and 200 IM (2:11.66). Cripe finished third in the 100 fly (59.75) and 50 free (24.52). Chloe Thomas came through with a third-place showing in the 100 back (1:01.04).
The Lady Flames have concluded their 2011-12 regular-season schedule. Liberty will compete in the 2012 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships, held Feb. 16-18 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
