Update (2/12/21): Due to Liberty University closing today because of inclement weather, the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center Dedication Ceremony has been postponed. Please continue to check the @LibertyFlames social media accounts for rescheduling information.
Following Friday's Liberty Indoor Tennis Center Dedication Ceremony, the unbeaten Lady Flames women's tennis team will play its first two matches in its brand-new facility on Saturday.
Liberty, off to a program-best 4-0 start, will host the Davidson Wildcats (1-2) at 9 a.m. and the Towson Tigers (0-0) later in the day at 4 p.m.
The Lady Flames and Wildcats last met just over 10 years ago (Feb. 3, 2011). In that match, Liberty topped Davidson 7-0. The Wildcats claimed the first seven meetings in the all-time series prior to that.
Liberty and Towson are meeting for the first time in dual match action. However, the Tigers have competed in Lynchburg before, most recently at the 2018 ITA Atlantic Regional (Oct. 12-16).
About the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center/Attendance
The Liberty Indoor Tennis Center is a new 48,000-square foot facility that features six courts and seating for 100 fans. The building also houses team locker rooms, a team lounge, a laundry facility and a concessions area. The new facility, coupled with the 12 outdoor courts, will make up the Liberty Tennis Complex.
The $5 million project was first announced on Nov. 14, 2019, and construction on the new 48,000-square foot facility began on April 23, 2020. The capital gift responsible for this construction project represented the largest single gift pledge to the Flames Club in athletics department history.
Due to COVID-19 and state regulations, capacity at all Liberty Athletics events is under a limited capacity of 250 patrons of 30 percent capacity, whichever is less based on social distancing protocols. No public tickets are available for the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center, and attendance will be limited to a player pass list only.
