The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team opens its 2016 fall season this weekend at the Elon Fall Invitational. The invitational begins on Friday morning and wraps up on Sunday.
"We've had a good two weeks of practice, and I'm excited to see how some of our girls perform in competition," stated head coach Jeff Maren. "Elon has always provided a good test for our players, so I'm sure that we will have the opportunity to work on our games and shed a little ‘rust' that may have accumulated from the summer months."
Sophomores Rebekah Anderson, Audrey Brown and Aleksandra Panchenko along with senior Emily Groeneveld will represent Liberty at this year's invitational. Live results for the event can be found at the link provided in the schedule/results panel of LibertyFlames.com.
Liberty competed in the same event last season, capturing five finals titles on the final day of play. Lauren Mabe and Evangeline Crist earned a share of the title in the Acorn Singles flight, while Belen Rivera and Mariely Hassey earned a share of the title in the Gold Singles flight. Valerie Thong won the Powell Singles outright.
In doubles competition, Maria Khval and Anna Dollar claimed the Maroon Doubles finals draw. Thong and Evangeline Crist won the Phoenix Doubles flight.
Jeff Maren returns eight players from last year's squad, which went 15-10 and earned a share of the Big South regular-season title with an 8-1 mark in conference play. Maren also welcomes freshman Eugenia Camacho to this year's roster.
