The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team looks to make it three for three on its current road trip this afternoon at 2 p.m. against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
Liberty enters today's match with an even 5-5 record (3-1 Big South), after winning five out of its last six contests. On their current road trip, the Lady Flames have defeated Big South opponent UNC Asheville, 4-3, before downing Lipscomb by the same score on Saturday.
Rebekah Jenkins and Valerie Thong posted perfect 2-0 marks in singles play in the No. 2 and No. 5 positions, respectively. In doubles play, Brittany Yang and Jessie Boda improved to a team-best 8-2 as a tandem in the No. 2 spot with a pair of victories last week.
For the season, Nicola Wellman leads Liberty with a 6-3 mark in singles tilts, while Jenkins has won three consecutive singles matches to improve to 5-3 on the year. After dropping her first two contests of the season, Thong has reeled off four-straight wins in singles play. As a team, the Lady Flames are 24-29 in singles play, including a 12-6 tally during their current three-match winning streak.
In doubles play, Yang and Boda have accounted for half of Liberty's 16 total doubles victories. Thong and partner Cameron Richard are second on the squad with five wins in the No. 3 position.
Today's match will be the first ever meeting between the Lady Flames and the Hilltoppers. Western Kentucky holds a current record of 3-2, after dropping its last match on March 2 to Murray State, 6-1. Monta Reinfeld paces the Hilltoppers with a perfect 5-0 mark in singles contests this season in the No. 1 spot. In doubles play, Reinfeld and partner Madeline Phillips are 4-1 this season, while competing in the No. 1 position.
After this afternoon's match, the Lady Flames return to action on March 19 at home versus East Carolina. The contest is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.
