
Artis, McDyre Garner Conference Awards for Second Straight Week

For the second straight week, Liberty outfielder D.J. Artis has been named the Big South Player of the Week and third baseman Trey McDyre garnered Big South Freshman of the Week honors. Both players earned the same awards last week.
The first two hitters in Liberty's batting order, Artis and McDyre helped spark a Flames' offense which hit .293 as a team and scored 39 runs in a three-game sweep of Longwood, this past weekend.
Artis hit .545 and had a .706 on base percentage during the Longwood series to be tabbed the Big South Player of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season. He also scored eight times and collected seven RBI.
The sophomore from Greensboro, N.C., reached base six times in Liberty's Friday win at Longwood. The Flames' leadoff hitter, the center fielder went 3-for-4, walked twice and was hit by a pitch. He had three RBI and scored four runs. Saturday, he had two hits, belted his fifth home run of the year, drove in three runs and scored three runs in the contest, before singling to give Liberty the lead in the seventh inning in Sunday's win.
Artis leads the Big South with a .372 batting average and is second in the nation with a .532 on base percentage. The outfielder also lead the Big South Conference with 45 runs scored and is seventh with 29 RBI. He has reached base in 30 straight games.
McDyre was named Freshman of the Week after a big weekend at the plate at Longwood. The third baseman batted .471 with five RBI and five runs scored. He had two or more hits in each of Liberty's wins over the weekend, including four during Friday's opener.
The Purcellville, Va., native belted his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, in Liberty's four-run seventh inning in the Flames' 6-3 win on Sunday.
McDyre has hit .336 with 28 RBI and 29 runs scored in 29 games this season.
Artis, McDyre and the Flames, 25-15, will carry a four-game winning streak to Charlottesville, Va., for a contest against the No. 10 Virginia Cavaliers, Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
