How It Happened
• Liberty set the tone with a dominant doubles session and won all but one singles match. Four of the Lady Flames’ five singles triumphs were in straight sets. In those four straight-sets victories, Liberty won a combined 48 games and lost only seven games.
• The Lady Flames’ No. 3 doubles unit, Micaela Ode Mitre and Tiffany Nguyen, picked up a 6-1 win against Lee-Taylor Bishop and Sydney Flesch of the Lions. Ode Mitre and Nguyen pace all Liberty doubles units with six spring victories.
• Liberty’s top doubles unit, Kalani Soli and Maria Juliana Parra Romero, upended Payton Andrews and Gabriela Cevallos 6-0 for a 1-0 Lady Flames lead shortly after Ode Mitre and Nguyen closed out their match. Since joining forces last weekend, Soli and Parra Romero are a perfect 3-0 in the No. 1 slot.
• Ode Mitre, playing in the No. 6 singles position, dropped her first game to UNA’s Nicole Reilly before reeling off 12 games in a row for a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Ode Mitre (15-8 overall, 9-2 spring singles) has won five matches in a row.
• Liberty’s Esther Lovato ran her singles winning streak to 13 matches and provided the guests a 3-0 edge, as she topped Kalais Going 6-1, 6-0 on court four. Lovato leads all Lady Flames with 24 singles wins between fall and spring competition and paces the squad with a 15-2 mark.
• Freshman standout Parra Romero sealed the victory for Liberty by virtue of a two-set triumph (6-0, 6-1) versus Andrews in the No. 1 singles match. The Lady Flames rookie improves to 12-2 in spring singles contest and sports an 8-1 mark in the No. 1 position.
• Liberty increased its advantage to five points (5-0) when Nguyen tallied a 6-1, 6-3 victory against her counterpart, Makayla Loubser, at No. 5 singles. Lady Flames senior Soli battled past Flesch on court two for a come-from-behind 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) win and a 6-0 lead.
• The Lions avoided the shutout, as Juliette Talieu rallied to edge Alexandra Almborg 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6).
• Today’s five-point margin of victory is the largest margin of victory in series history. In four all-time matchups, Liberty has outscored UNA 20-5.
• Liberty holds a 7-1 record in matches since March 5.
