Win Streak Extends to Five with Lady Flames' 7-0 Victory

Despite playing its fourth match in as many days, the Liberty women's tennis team showed no signs of wear, as they routed Norfolk State, 7-0, at the Hershey Tennis Courts on Wednesday.
The Lady Flames' fifth consecutive win improves their record to 9-10. Since March 10, Liberty has won eight of its nine matches. Five of the team's nine victories have been sweeps. Norfolk State falls to 7-10 with the loss.
Liberty wasted no time taking the opening point on the afternoon, aided by a default in the No. 3 slot by the Spartans. Jessie Boda and Carol Lobel took their fourth doubles match as a tandem, winning the No. 2 match to secure the doubles point, 8-1, over Maryna Kariuk and Laura Gutierrez. Rebekah Jenkins and Alexandra Sheeran wrapped up doubles, blanking Naeemah Brooks and Rebecca Graff, 8-0.
A default in the No. 6 match handed Liberty a 2-0 advantage, before the remaining five Lady Flames all picked up straight-set wins en route to the overall sweep.
Jenkins notched her seventh singles victory of the season, as she downed Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 2 slot. Sheeran followed shortly after with her fourth straight singles win, dropping only one set to Brooks for the 6-0, 6-1, decision, clinching the Liberty victory.
Freshman Nicola Wellman also surrendered just one game, taking the No. 4 match over Kariuk, 6-1, 6-0, for her seventh win of 2012.
Lobel breezed through her opening set, 6-1, before Graff put up a fight in the second. However, the Lady Flames' sole senior claimed the win by taking the second set, 7-5, for her fifth consecutive singles victory.
Annisha Domenech wrapped up the 7-0 win for Liberty, defeating Kia Batiste in the No. 5 match, 6-3, 6-2.
Liberty will hit the courts once again on Friday, with another Big South match. The Lady Flames will host Campbell at 2 p.m., with live updates being available for the contest.
