2015 CFPA Defensive Award Watch List
Liberty senior defensive end Chima Uzowihe was one of 34 players named to the 2015 CFPA FCS Defensive End/Defensive Tackle Award Watch List, which was recently announced by the College Football Performance Award (CFPA) committee.
A total of 98 FCS players were named to three different CFPA Defensive Award Watch Lists on Wednesday: 32 defensive backs, 32 linebackers and 34 defensive linemen. The award winners will be announced January 13, 2016.
The CFPA list is the second national Player of the Year Watch List Uzowihe is currently on. Prior to the start of the season, the senior was named to the 2015 STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year Award Watch list.
Uzowihe is leaving his mark on the Liberty and Big South record books during his last season with the Flames. The senior currently leads the Big South with 8.0 sacks and stands 1.5 sacks away from breaking the conference's single season sack record.
The native of Houston, Texas, already owns the program and Big South record with 25 career sacks. He ranks fourth in school history and third in conference history with 38.5 career tackles for a loss.
Uzowihe is vying to become the fourth player in program history to be named CFPA Award winner, following Chris Summers (2010 FCS Top Wide Receiver), Kevin Fogg (2011 FCS Top Kickoff Return Specialist) and Jacob Hagen (2014 Top Defensive Back).
