Junior defender Serena Barr has been tabbed this week's Field Hockey Lady Flame of the Week. The Lady Flame of the Week is voted on by the field hockey coaching staff for the previous week's contests.
Barr received the recognition after netting three goals in three contests, all Liberty victories. On Friday, the Northern Ireland native buried the game-winning goal to lift the Lady Flames to a 4-3 victory over Penn in Lynchburg, Va. Two days later, Barr displayed stout defense by holding Lafayette to just one goal in Liberty's 2-1 victory. Barr stopped multiple breakaways and anchored the defense that only allowed three shots during the duration of the contest.
Barr's biggest offensive performance of the three games came in yesterday's 7-1 victory over Richmond in Lynchburg, Va. Barr netted two second-half goals as the Lady Flames notched seven unanswered goals.
Following Tuesday's performance, Barr jumped into the No. 5 slot for the program's all-time goals with her 16th goal of her career. Barr's two goals gives her 50 career points, passing Helen Doolittle and twin sister Bethany Barr for the fourth most points in program history.
Barr looks to guide the No. 17 Lady Flames (4-0) to two victories this weekend as Liberty travels to Athens, Ohio on Friday to take on Ohio at 4:30 p.m. followed by Sunday's 1 p.m. showdown at No. 11 Louisville in Louisville, Ky.
