The fifth-ranked Connecticut Huskies topped the 19th-ranked Liberty Lady Flames 6-1 on Thursday evening at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex.
With the win, UConn (13-3, 6-0 BIG EAST) has clinched the No. 1 seed for the upcoming BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, hosted by Liberty, and has earned at least a share of the BIG EAST regular-season crown.
Liberty (10-5, 5-1 BIG EAST) drops to second place in the league. However, the Lady Flames still have a chance to share the BIG EAST regular-season title with UConn should they defeat Providence on Oct. 26 and if UConn were to lose to Georgetown (also on Oct. 26).
Lady Flames senior Agueda Moroni scored her 21st goal of the season and 50th of her career. Meanwhile, UConn featured six different goal scorers during the game, paced by Cecile Pieper's five-point effort (1 g, 3 a).
