Liberty posted a quartet of first-place finishes on the CSU Spring Break Invitational's final day, Saturday at Bagwell-Settle Track. The Flames' event champions included Chelsea Igberaese (women's discus), Maggie McDermott (women's 400), William Partridge (men's shot put) and Branson Rolle (men's 400 hurdles).
Three of Liberty's winners (Igberaese, Partridge and Rolle) are new to the team in 2018. Partridge won his second event in as many days, following his men's hammer triumph on Friday.
Men's Day Two Recap
Partridge, a junior transfer from Central Arizona College, reached 52-7.5 on his top shot put heave of the day. That ranks No. 10 in program history and enabled him to defeat Charleston Southern's Ryan Spiecha, the reigning Big South indoor and outdoor runner-up.
Rolle clocked 54.47 for victory in the 400 hurdles. Teammates Isidro Johnson (57.49) and Michael Fairfax (57.85) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Markus Ballengee dropped his 110 hurdles personal best to 14.42 for second place in the final and sixth place all-time at Liberty. Rolle (third place, 14.71) and Jeremy Davis (sixth, personal-best 15.51) also posted lofty finishes in the 110 hurdles.
Jonathan Doss' 11.08 effort earned fourth place in the men's 100 final.
Davis, who competed in five different events during the two-day meet, triple jumped 42-5.5 to come in fifth.
Ballengee hurled the discus 127-6 to claim eighth place in the event.
Women's Day Two Recap
Last time Holly Arey threw the discus at Charleston Southern, the senior ended up as the Big South runner-up. On Saturday, Arey posted a 140-11 throw but finished third behind two Liberty newcomers.
Freshman Igberaese claimed the victory and the No. 6 spot on Liberty's all-time list with a 145-10 effort. Meanwhile, Iowa Western Community College transfer Patria Vaimaona measured 142-0 for second place on Saturday and No. 10 in Lady Flames history.
McDermott claimed the first event victory of her collegiate career, thanks to her outdoor personal-best 400 time of 58.18. Bailey Reeves followed in third place (59.63) with Natalee Cole fourth (59.84).
Uncharacteristically competing in only two events this weekend, Kylie Polsgrove crossed the line second in the women's 100 hurdles final at 14.57.
Freshman Alexis Wilson was the women's 100 dash third-place finisher at 12.25, while classmate Nikayla Hoyte ended up seventh in 12.52 seconds.
Kemi Moore took part in three different events during the meet, including the 800, where she came in sixth with a time of 2:35.74.
