The Liberty softball team placed nine players on the list of Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athletes.
The Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete award is given to any softball player submitted by a member coach who attained a 3.50 grade-point average or higher during the 2015-16 academic year.
A total of 5,152 softball student-athletes received Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete distinction this year. The awardees represent seven different divisions, encompassing NCAA, NAIA, junior college and high school. NCAA Division I led all levels with 1,240 honorees.
Liberty's nine honorees were tied with Winthrop for the most by a Big South school this year. The Lady Flames were represented by seniors Katie Han and Blair Lawrence, redshirt junior Kenzie Friesen, sophomores Jessica Cicerchia, Madi Clarke and Cassie Gingerich, along with freshmen Jaclyn Amader, Amanda Dobner and Stephanie Marlowe.
Friesen, Han and Lawrence were honored for the third year in a row, while Cicerchia, Clarke and Gingerich all received their second Scholar-Athlete mention.
