
Liberty Earns 6-2 Win Over Virginia

Liberty kept its home dominance going, earning a 6-2 win over Virginia on Tuesday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames (9-6) are 9-1 in their last 10 games overall, including 4-1 on their current 11-game homestand. Virginia falls to 9-7 on the season.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit UVA 10-6 for the game. Both teams recorded one error. Virginia left eight runners on base, while Liberty stranded six.
- Megan Johnson (2-0) earned the win, allowing one unearned run on five hits, walking three and striking out one in 5 1/3 innings of relief. Karlie Keeney came on to get the final out with the bases loaded in the seventh to earn her first save of the season. Starter Emily Kirby pitched 1 1/3 innings, yielding one run on one hit, walking three and striking out one.
- Mikayla Houge (5-2) drew the loss, allowing three runs on five hits, walking one and fanning one in three innings of relief of starter Morgan Murphy, who allowed two runs without getting an out.
- Alexis Soto went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, while Kara Canetto batted 2-for-3 with a career-high two triples and two runs scored. Devyn Howard batted 1-for-3 with a double.
- Abby Weaver batted 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored, while Bailey Winscott doubled and went 2-for-3.
Turning Point
- Trailing 2-0 after one inning, Liberty loaded the bases in both the second and third innings, managing one run in both innings to tie it at 2-2.
- Liberty jumped ahead with a three-run fourth inning, as Canetto led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. The inning also featured an RBI single by Rachel Craine and a double-steal that saw Mary Claire Wilson steal home for a 5-2 lead.
- With Liberty leading 6-2 in the seventh, the Cavaliers loaded the bases with two outs. Keeney then entered in relief of Johnson, getting Katie Goldberg to fly out for the final out.
Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty is now 14-0 in its last 14 home games against teams from Virginia.
- Virginia leads the all-time series 47-28, but Liberty has won each of the last three meetings.
