
Football Weekly Recap: Robert Morris

Following each Flames football contest during the 2010 season, LibertyFlames.com will revisit the prior day's game, providing news and notes from the game and a complete postgame interview with head coach Danny Rocco (either audio or video).
Today's recap takes a look back at Liberty's heartbreaking 30-23 loss to Robert Morris, the Flames' first setback of the year. With the loss, Liberty fell to 2-1 on the year and 1-1 on its current three-game road swing that will conclude next week at No. 3 James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va.
News and Notes from the Robert Morris game:
• Despite having its lowest total offensive output of the season (405 yards), Liberty still ranks No. 9 in the country in total offensive yards per game (466.33).
• Liberty had its third-straight 250-plus yard passing game (267 yards) and now ranks No. 4 nationally in passing yards per contest (331.67).
• Liberty finished the Robert Morris game with two passing touchdowns, giving the Flames 10 passing touchdowns in three games this year.
• The Flames are currently tied for the national lead in passing touchdowns along with Montana and Lamar (a reclassifying/provisional program).
• Robert Morris held Liberty without a rushing touchdown, breaking a string of 42-straight games where Liberty had rushed for at least one touchdown.
• The Flames have recorded a rushing touchdown in 45 of 48 games under head coach Danny Rocco.
• For the third-straight game, Liberty finished with 20 or more first downs and now ranks No. 11 in the country in first downs per game (23.67).
• Of Liberty's 71 total first downs on the year, 41 first downs have come on passing plays.
• Only four other programs in the country have more passing first downs than Liberty (Elon – 49, Stephen F. Austin – 46, Weber State – 43 and Jackson State – 43).
• Liberty finished the game with two turnovers (one fumble and an interception on a "Hail Mary" play), while Robert Morris did not commit any turnovers.
• Liberty currently ranks No. 80 in the country in turnover margin (-0.67/3 gained to 5 lost) after leading the nation in turnover margin in 2009 (+1.91/29 gained to 8 lost).
• Liberty finished the game 8-of-17 on third-down plays and currently ranks No. 8 in the country in third-down efficiency (53.66 percent/22-of-41).
• Liberty scored on all three of its trips inside the red zone on Saturday, settling for three field goals.
• The Flames are one of 17 FCS programs in the country to have scored on all of their trips inside the red zone this season (five touchdowns and four field goals).
• Liberty held Robert Morris to three first downs on 10 third-down plays on Saturday and Liberty now ranks No. 16 in the nation in third-down efficiency defense (27.78 percent/10-of-36).
• Liberty stopped Robert Morris on a fourth-and-one play in the first quarter, marking the third time Liberty has stopped an opponent on a fourth-down play this year.
• Liberty is one of 23 FCS programs who have stopped their opponents on each attempted fourth-down play this season.
• Liberty finished the Robert Morris game with seven tackles for a loss (28 yards), marking the third time Liberty has finished a game with seven or more TFLs.
• Liberty currently ranks No. 17 in the country in tackles for a loss, as the Flames are averaging 7.33 TFLs per game.
• Liberty finished the Robert Morris game with a season-high eight penalties for 46 penalty yards.
• Liberty had committed just seven penalties that resulted in 64 penalty yards during the first two games of the season.
• Liberty now currently ranks No. 18 nationally in fewest penalties per game (5.00/average) and No. 15 in fewest penalty yards per game (37.00/average).
• Mike Brown posted his third-straight game with 300 or more total offensive yards in a game (344 yards – 77 rushing and 267 passing).
• Mike Brown completed his first 12 passing attempts of the game against Robert Morris and now ranks No. 9 nationally in passing efficiency (157.40).
• Following his 344 total offensive yards against Robert Morris, Mike Brown now ranks No. 4 nationally in average total offensive yards per game (353.00).
• Mike Brown is one of four FCS quarterbacks in the country to rank inside the Top 10 in both passing efficiency (No. 9/157.40) and total passing yards (No. 3/881).
• Mike Brown finished the Robert Morris game with two passing touchdowns and is currently tied for No. 3 nationally in passing touchdowns with eight.
• Mike Brown threw for 267 yards against Robert Morris, marking his third-straight 250 yard passing performance.
• Mike Brown is the first Liberty quarterback since Biff Parson (2000) who has recorded three-straight games with 200 or more passing yards.
• For the first time this year, Chris Summers was held under 100 receiving yards in a game, as the wide receiver finished the Robert Morris game with nine catches for 88 yards.
• Despite not reaching the 100-yard mark, Chris Summers still ranks No. 6 nationally in receiving yards per game (121.0) and No. 5 in receptions per contest (9.00).
• Chris Summers picked up his fifth receiving touchdown of the year against Robert Morris and is now tied with J.J. Hayes of Lamar for the national lead in total receiving touchdowns.
• Chris Summers currently is tied for No. 13 nationally in scoring (10.00 points per game), while Mike Brown is tied for No. 18 in points responsible for (18.00 per game).
• Ervin Garner caught his first collegiate touchdown pass on a 36-yard reception during the third quarter of the Robert Morris game.
• Ervin Garner finished the Robert Morris game with a career-high five receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown.
• Ervin Garner is the fourth Liberty wide receiver to post a 100-yard game this season and is the 48th player in program history to record a 100-yard game.
• Matt Bevins connected on three of four field goal attempts against Robert Morris, with his lone miss coming on a 51-yard attempt.
• With three field goals against Robert Morris, Matt Bevins now ranks second in both program and Big South history with 38 career field goals.
• Matt Bevins needs two more field goals to tie the Big South career field goal record (Josh Hoke – 40) and five more to tie the program record (Daniel Whitehead – 43).
• Matt Bevins finished the Robert Morris game with 11 points, thanks to three field goals and two point-after attempts.
• The Robert Morris game marked the sixth time in Matt Bevins' career that the kicker has finished a contest with 10 or more points.
• With 11 points against Robert Morris on Saturday, Matt Bevins now ranks No. 4 all-time in Liberty's history with 186 career points scored.
• Terry Adams tied Kyle O'Donnell for the team lead with six tackles against Robert Morris.
• The six tackles against Robert Morris marked a season high for Terry Adams and the third most of the senior's career at Liberty.
