
Flames Finish Rod Myers Invitational in Sixth Place

Liberty completed play with the third best round on Sunday, allowing the Flames to move up the leaderboard and finished in sixth place at the 2015 Rod Myers Invitational.
The Flames carded an 8-over par 296 on Sunday, which was only bested by one stroke from tournament champion Wake Forest and tournament runner-up Duke during the final round of competition.
With the improved play on Sunday, Liberty moved up the leaderboard three spots to finish its first event of the 2015-16 season in sixth place. The Flames carded a 20-over par 884 (290-298-296) at the Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,136 yards).
Wake Forest finished the 54-hole event one shot ahead of tournament host Duke to claim the team title. The Demon Deacons posted a winning score of 2-under par 862 (288-279-295), followed by Duke's 1-under par 863 (286-282-295).
Seven players in the 75-man field managed to post an individual score in red figures, including Liberty's sophomore Isaiah Logue, who finished the event in third place for his third career top five finish.
Wake Forest's Will Zalatoris won the event with an 8-under par 208 (66-66-76), followed one shot behind by Duke's Adam Wood and his 7-under par 209 (69-67-73).
Logue posted a third-place score of 5-under par 211 (67-73-71), closing the event with the best individual round on Sunday. He was one of five golfers to card a closing round 1-under par 71, thanks to three birdies during his first 12 holes on the course.
Payton Taylor moved 12 spots up the leaderboard with a 2-over par 74 on Sunday, finishing the event in 31st place with an 8-over par 224 (77-73-74).
Liberty's Gabe Lench (75-76-75) and Hutson Chandler (74-76-76) were two of four golfers to share 36th place with a 10-over par 226.
Michael DeMorat, a transfer from East Florida State, finished his first Division I event tied for 54th place with a 15-over par 231 (74-76-81).
The Flames will return to the golf links next weekend when they participate in the Rees Jones Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event, which starts next Sunday, will be played at the Haig Point Golf Course in Daufuskie Island, S.C.
