
Flames Continue Texas Swing This Week

The Liberty men's tennis squad (6-4) continues its Texas road trip this week, facing a trio of Lone Star State opponents. The Flames first compete in a doubleheader on Tuesday, with the opening match against Incarnate Word beginning at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a showdown against St. Mary's at 3 p.m. ET. Liberty will conclude its road trip on Thursday against host Texas at San Antonio at 3 p.m. ET. All three matches are scheduled to be played in San Antonio.
Liberty enters the contest having recently beaten Abilene Christian yesterday, 4-3, in Abilene, Texas. The Flames currently ride a two-game winning streak that began with their conference opening 6-1 victory against Longwood on March 3 at the Sports Racket in Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty is led by freshman Diego Castano and junior Egon Samaai who lead the team with six wins apiece. Transfer sophomore Sam Matheson falls in line behind the duo with five wins of his own. Castano paces the team in doubles play with seven doubles victories. He is closely followed by captain Dillon Segur who enters Tuesday's contests with six doubles wins.
The Incarnate Word Cardinals enter Tuesday's match with a 5-10 overall record, having most recently fallen to Tyler Junior College by a score of 6-1 yesterday in San Antonio, Texas. The Cardinals have dropped five straight matches with their last victory coming against Laredo Community College by a score of 7-0 on Feb. 21 in San Antonio.
The St. Mary's Rattlers improved their record to 4-3 on Thursday after they bested Southeastern Oklahoma State by a score of 8-1 in San Antonio. The Rattlers have won three of their last five matches heading into Tuesday's contest.
The UTSA Roadrunners boast a 7-5 record heading into Thursday's showdown. In UTSA's most recent match, they successfully ousted Lamar yesterday by a score of 4-3 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Roadrunners are winners of five of their last six matches.
Following Thursday's match, Liberty returns to action on March 18 when the Flames travel to Richmond, Va. to take on the Richmond Spiders at 2:30 p.m. The Flames will return home to square off against Big South foe, Coastal Carolina at 3 p.m. on March 21.
