Liberty's cheerleaders will move from the sidelines to the competition floor when its squads compete at the 2017 UCA College Cheerleading National Championships, this weekend.
The 2017 UCA College Cheerleading National Championships will take place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., Friday through Sunday. The event will be video streamed through the UCA website and on ESPN3 (Links for Friday – Saturday – Sunday).
Three different groups will compete for Liberty during the three-day event. For the first time in the cheerleading program history, Liberty will enter a large coed team in the UCA competition.
Next, Liberty's all-girl partner stunt group will perform, a group that is currently ranked No. 5 in the country based upon its video submission. The veteran group of cheerleaders is comprised of three seniors and a junior.
In addition, Sparky will represent the Flames in the Open Mascot division competition. Sparky will be looking to defend his national title after sharing first place in the competition last year with "YoUDee", the mascot from Delaware.
Last year, Liberty's Colby Hall, Cassidy Hall, Kyle Minder and Laken Hendron finished in second place in the Partner Stunt Girls "4" division. Liberty's second unit of Dani Blasini, Chesley O'Connell, Lizzie Edmondson and Matty Hogan finished in sixth place.
