
Campbell Downs Liberty in 3 Sets

In a match that pitted two teams who entered the week on hot streaks, Campbell posted a 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-20) sweep of visiting Liberty, Tuesday at Gore Arena.
With the win, its fifth in its last six matches, Campbell improves to 13-14, 8-5 in Big South play. The Lady Flames (14-11, 9-4 Big South) had gone 9-1 in their last 10 contests entering Tuesday's matchup.
For the match, Campbell hit .200, while Liberty attacked at a .000 pace. The Camels led in kills (39-25), aces (4-2), digs (55-47) and blocks (9-7).
Five Camels finished with six kills or more, led by Rachel Harty and Allena Heath, who registered eight kills each. Summer Schuitema recorded a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs. Kayla Schanback collected 16 digs, while Madison Linxwiler contributed five blocks.
Leah Clayton led all players with 13 kills, while Casey Goodwin and Kainah Williams both posted four blocks. Anna Willey registered her 10th double-double of the season with 16 assists and 11 digs, while Margaret Latchford collected 10 digs.
Campbell led set one, 12-5, following a Linxwiler kill. The Lady Flames fought back, as Clayton's third kill of the set brought the Lady Flames to within three at 14-11 at the end of a 6-2 Liberty run. The Camels then pulled away, winning the opening set, 25-19.
For the first set, Campbell outhit Liberty, .256-.073, while the Camels posted four blocks. Clayton led all players with five set-one kills.
The Lady Flames built a quick 6-2 lead during the second session, as Clayton scored three early kills. Campbell rebounded, outscoring Liberty 23-8 from that point on to claim a 25-14 victory.
The hosts hit. 270 in set two, compared to -.081 for the Lady Flames.
Liberty held a 15-11 lead in the middle stages of the third stanza after a kill by Anna Gragg. Jenny Tait then sparked an 11-0 Campbell rally with a kill, helping to push the host team ahead, 22-15. The Lady Flames attempted to rally late, but the Camels sealed it, 25-20, with a combo block.
Set three saw Harty record five kills for the Camels, who hit just .057.
The Lady Flames return home for their final three regular-season matches. Liberty will host Presbyterian on Friday at 7 p.m., before taking on High Point at 2 p.m., Saturday. Before Friday's match against Presbyterian, Liberty will honor its lone senior, Michelle Melendez, with a Senior Night ceremony.
