
Liberty Swimming & Diving Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award

The Liberty swimming & diving team earned a 3.76 team GPA this spring. Liberty was among teams on the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team list for the spring 2025 semester. Additionally, seven Lady Flames have been named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans.
In the pool, Liberty has won seven straight conference championships (2019-25). The Lady Flames are now members of the American Athletic Conference.
Seniors Maddie Freece and Sydney Stricklin, redshirt sophomore Malia Francis, sophomores Kamryn Cannings, Shannon Icard and Chloe LaCount and freshman Aly Bozzuto all earned second team CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American honors. Liberty's group of seven CSCAA Scholar All-Americans is the most in a single year in program history.
The Individual Scholar All-America award is given to college swimmers and divers who have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher and have qualified for and competed at the national championship. Second team recognition is given to college swimmers and divers with a 3.5 GPA or higher who attained a "B" standard or Zone Diving score but were not invited to the national championship.
The CSCAA announced its Scholar All-America Team awards, which were received by 763 programs, spanning NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. In order to qualify for the award, a team must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the previous semester.
As a team, the Lady Flames earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.76 in the spring of 2025. That tied for the 13th best GPA among all NCAA Division I women's swimming & diving programs this spring. During the fall of 2018, Liberty's program-record 3.79 GPA led all collegiate teams, men's or women's.
Liberty has now earned CSCAA academic honors as a team a total of 26 semesters, dating back to the fall 2011 semester. Additionally, the Lady Flames have earned 59 CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American honors in program history.
Hailing from Jupiter, Fla., Bozzuto carries a 3.78 GPA as a sport psychology major. She had an amazing freshman campaign. She set program records in the 100 breaststroke (59.17), 200 breaststroke (2:11.28) and 100 IM (57.21) this season. Bozzuto was named the Most Outstanding Freshman Swimmer of the ASUN Championships, winning both the 100 and 200 breaststroke while finishing second in the 50 freestyle. The Florida native earned selection to the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Cannings had a tremendous sophomore season, earning Most Outstanding Swimmer of the ASUN Championships. Cannings won the 50 free (22.07), 100 free (48.45) and 100 fly (51.42) at the 2025 ASUN meet and competed in the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships for the second year in a row. She holds ASUN records in the 200 free (1:44.10) and 100 fly (51.26) while serving as Liberty's program record holder in the 50 free (22.07), 100 free (48.45), 200 free (1:44.10) and 100 fly (51.26).
Francis, a business administration: project management major from Rhinelander, Wis., is a 3.52 student so far. She earned victory in the 200 backstroke at the 2025 ASUN Swimming & Diving Championships, swimming a lifetime best and NCAA B cut 1:54.87. Francis also placed fourth in the 100 backstroke at the ASUN Championships. The redshirt sophomore ranks third in program history in the 200 backstroke (1:54.87), ninth in 100 backstroke (54.72) and 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:02.49). Francis owns two career ASUN medals, finishing second in the 200 backstroke in 2025 before winning the 200 back this season.
A native of Lansdale, Pa., Freece posted a 3.68 GPA during the 2024-25 academic year as a nursing major. Freece is a two-time CCSA Women's Diver of the Year. She finished second on both one-meter and three-meter at the 2025 ASUN Championships. Freece is a nine-time conference medalist, including four-time individual event winner. She graduated as Liberty's program record holder on one-meter (320.75), while ranking fifth on three-meter (305.90) and eighth on platform (181.35).
Hailing from Quitman, Ga., Icard has registered a 4.0 GPA as a sport information major. She was named the Most Outstanding Female Diver of the 2025 ASUN Championships, winning both one-meter (267.25) and three-meter (310.70) diving. Icard earned finals appearances on both platform and three-meter at the Zone Championships this year. The sophomore is Liberty's program record holder for platform (261.00), ranking second on three-meter (310.70) and ninth on one-meter (267.25).
LaCount, a native of East Bernard, Texas, holds a 3.87 GPA as a criminal justice major. She qualified for the Zone A Diving Championships during the regular season, scoring 276.45 on one-meter and 283.65 on three-meter at the TYR '85 Invite in November. She earned a pair of A Finals appearances at the 2025 ASUN Championships, finishing fourth on three-meter and sixth on one-meter. LaCount is ranked fourth in program history on three-meter (309.65), sixth on one-meter (276.45) and seventh on platform (181.50).
A native of Clarkston, Mich., Stricklin maintains a 3.94 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in sport management. Stricklin finished her career as a seven-time conference medalist after earning three podium finishes at the 2025 ASUN Championships. She won both the 100 and 200 freestyle at this year's conference meet while placing second in the 200 IM. Stricklin is holds the program record in the 200 IM (1:57.50), ranking second in both the 100 free (48.94) and 200 free (1:45.73) and fourth in 50 back (24.97) and 100 back (53.31).
