Liberty will open the Alexis Sherard era on Tuesday, playing host to Frostburg State.
Sherard, an assistant for the Lady Flames for the last 18 seasons (2007-08 through 2024-25), takes over for Carey Green. Green announced his retirement on Aug. 28, following an incredible 26-year run at Liberty which included 591 wins and 15 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Liberty is facing Frostburg State for the Lady Flames' season opener for the second time in three years. Liberty topped the Bobcats 68-46 in the 2023-24 lid-lifter.
The Lady Flames are coming off a successful 2024-25 season which saw them go 26-7 and claim their first CUSA regular-season and tournament titles. Liberty suffered a tight one-point loss to Kentucky during its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018.
Junior forward Elisabeth Aegisdottir is Liberty's lone returning starter from last season, as one of the other starters (Emma Hess) is now part of the Lady Flames' coaching staff. Sophomores Avery Mills and Emmy Stout were both voted to the CUSA's preseason all-conference team.

Notes and Anecdotes

Liberty is hosting Frostburg State for the Lady Flames' season opener for the second time in three years. Meanwhile, this will serve as one of the Bobcats' three preseason exhibitions before they officially tip off their 2025-26 campaign against Pitt Johnstown on Nov. 14.
Liberty is predicted for a runner-up finish in CUSA, while Frostburg State was voted sixth of 11 squads in the preseason Mountain East Conference (MEC) poll.
Frostburg State went 19-11 last season, making the Bobcats one of 10 opponents on Liberty's 11-team non-conference schedule which posted a winning record in 2024-25.
Liberty is one of six CUSA teams facing a non-Division I opponent in its season opener this week.
Liberty is 3-0 when facing Frostburg State head coach Jenna Eckleberry, including 1-0 during her time with the Bobcats and 2-0 when she coached at Shepherd.
Claudia Acin and Elisabeth Aegisdottir both recorded their first collegiate points the last time Liberty and Frostburg State squared off (Nov. 6, 2023).
Tuesday's contest will mark the Lady Flames' 75th game at Liberty Arena. Liberty is 65-9 at the facility, good for an 87.8 winning percentage.

Lady Flames in Season Openers

Liberty is 25-25 all-time in season openers, including 16-8 when tipping off the year at home.
The Lady Flames have won their first game of the season in back-to-back years (2023-24 and 2024-25) for the first time since taking four straight openers between 2004-05 and 2007-08.
Liberty will begin the season with back-to-back home games for the first time since 2022-23, when the Lady Flames' first three contests came at Liberty Arena.
