
CSU Blanks Liberty, Ending Lady Flames' 6-Game Winning Streak

Charleston Southern earned a 3-0 shutout win at Liberty on Friday night, ending day one of the Liberty Softball Classic.
CSU improves to 5-6 on the season with the win, its second of the day. The Buccaneers topped Maine 8-5 this afternoon. The Lady Flames (6-6) saw their six-game winning streak snapped. Liberty opened play at the Liberty Softball Classic with a 6-3 win over George Washington this afternoon.

Notable Numbers
- Both teams recorded seven hits for the game, while CSU committed two errors and Liberty recorded one error. Both the Lady Flames and Buccaneers stranded seven baserunners.
- CSU’s Annah Junge (4-2) earned the win, her first shutout of the season. She allowed seven hits, striking out two batters.
- McKenzie Wagoner (1-2) drew the loss, yielding one run on three hits, walking two and striking out two in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Megan Johnson gave up two unearned runs on four hits, fanning two in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
- Raleigh Lewis batted 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored, while Ashley Meckley and Lilly Bishop recorded two hits apiece.
- Devyn Howard recorded her second three-hit game as a Lady Flame, including her first this year. She batted 3-for-3 on the evening, while Rachel Roupe went 2-for-3 with a double.
Turning Point
- Lewis’ solo blast in the second got CSU on the board. Liberty nearly equalized in the bottom of the second. With runners on first and second, Barrett reached on an error, and Roupe was thrown out trying to take home.
- CSU scored a pair of unearned runs off of reliever Megan Johnson in the fifth. The Buccaneers recorded inning-ending double plays in both the fourth and seventh innings, sealing the shutout.
Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty leads the all-time series with Charleston Southern, 51-22. The Lady Flames had won each of the last eight meetings against the Buccaneers prior to tonight. Today was the first meeting between the former Big South opponents since April 21, 2018, an 8-2 Liberty home win over CSU. Liberty is 5-2 all-time against Charleston Southern at Liberty Softball Stadium.
- Charleston Southern is the first team to shut out Liberty at Liberty Softball Stadium since March 19, 2019, when No. 5 Tennessee edged the Lady Flames 1-0.
