
Carr Paces Youthful Lady Flames at Panorama Farms

Sophomore Hope Carr paced a youthful Liberty women’s “B” squad at the Panorama Farms XC 23 Invitational, Saturday morning at Virginia’s Panorama Farms course.
Carr clocked a personal-best 5K time of 18:54.0 for 121st place as the Lady Flames took 17th out of 18 squads. Five of Liberty’s top seven finishers on the day were freshmen.
Host Virginia dominated the women’s field, tallying 32 points to defeat runner-up Ole Miss by 78.
A group of Flames competed unattached in the men’s 8K Saturday morning. Leading the way was Northern Arizona transfer Tristian Merchant. Racing a day before his 20th birthday, he posted a time of 23:33.8 for an impressive 12th-place showing.

Race Reactions
- Like Carr, freshman Summer Bejarano also dipped under 19:00 for the first time in her collegiate career, crossing the line in 18:59.9.
- At the opposite end of the experience spectrum, senior Jamie Anderson closed out her collegiate cross country career with a 149th-place finish in 19:37.0. She served as the Lady Flames’ No. 4 runner in the 18th and final race of her career. A year ago, Anderson came in 23rd at the ASUN meet as Liberty successfully defended its conference title.

Liberty will travel to John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala., for the 2022 ASUN Cross Country Championships. The meet will be contested on Oct. 29, with the women’s 5K scheduled for 9 a.m. Eastern and the men’s 8K to follow at 9:45 a.m. Eastern.
The Liberty women’s squad will be aiming for its third consecutive ASUN team title, while the men’s team will be in search of its first ASUN crown during its final year of conference membership.
