Liberty Falls to No. 25 Florida State

The Liberty men's tennis squad fell to No. 25 Florida State by a score of 4-0 in the second of the Flames' three matches to be played this weekend in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Flames fall to 3-5, while the Florida State improves to 8-2 on the season.
The Seminoles captured the doubles point, winning in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Aziz Dougaz and Michael Rinaldi bested Sam Matheson and Egon Samaai by a score of 6-1 to begin doubles action. The point was clinched following Jose Gracia and Jack Haffey's 6-4 victory over David Bush and Diego Castano.
Florida State rattled off three consecutive singles victories to take a commanding 4-0 lead following the Seminoles victory in doubles action.
Terrance Whitehurst defeated Alex Poynter in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles position to provide Florida State with a 2-0 lead.
Terrell Whitehurst and Gracia picked up straight set victories from the No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions, respectfully, giving the Seminoles the 4-0 advantage.
Samaai and Matheson were both competing well in their second sets before the match was called after Florida State clinched the victory. Matheson dropped the first set 6-2 to Rinaldi, but was tied at 3-3 in the second. Meanwhile, Samaai forced Dougaz into a long first set before slipping 7-5. The South Africa native was ahead 3-1 when the match was decided.
Liberty will close out its Florida trip with a non-conference bout against The Citadel tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. The contest will be played at the Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State.
