Following the first day of action at the 2016 Marquette Intercollegiate, Liberty stands in fourth place out of 10 teams.
The Flames fired an 11-over par 571 (284-287) during 36 continuous holes of play on Sunday at the Milwaukee Country Club (par 70, 7,097 yards).
Liberty was in second place and one stroke behind Northwestern following the morning flight. However, the Flames were unable to keep pace with the solid play of Northwestern, UCLA and Mississippi during the afternoon rounds.
During their second trip around the Milwaukee Country Club on Sunday, the three teams played a combined 11-under par, while Liberty closed the day with a 7-over par 287.
Northwestern leads the 10-team field with an even par 560 (283-277). UCLA follows at 2-over par 562 (287-275) and Mississippi is in third place with a 4-over par 564 (287-277).
Liberty is two strokes ahead of SMU at 13-over par 573 (288-285) and six shots in front of tournament host Marquette at 15-over par 575 (290-285).
Six players in the 66-man field are currently in red figures, led by UCLA's Tyler Collier, who leads the field with a 3-under par 137 (68-69). Northwestern's Ryan Lumsden is in second place with a 2-under par 138 (69-69).
Liberty's Mickey DeMorat (69-73) and Gabe Lench (70-72) are two of nine golfers tied for 12th place with a 2-over par 142.
DeMorat was among the leaders during the morning rounds, thanks to four birdies and a 1-under par round of 69. The junior maintained the score for most of the afternoon, but closed his day with four-straight bogeys.
Lench opened the tournament with his 10th career round at par or better, offsetting three bogeys with three birdies during the morning flight. The sophomore had two birdies during the afternoon to go along with two bogeys and a double bogey.
Isaiah Logue is one shot behind DeMorat and Lench, as he is tied for 21st place with a 3-over par 143 (73-70). The junior was one of two Flames to card better rounds during the afternoon thanks to his second round at par this season.
The final two members of Liberty's starting five are Payton Taylor and Kieran Vincent. Taylor is tied for 32nd place with a 6-over par 146 (72-74) and Vincent is tied for 45th place with a 10-over par 150 (78-72).
Taylor led the Flames on the day with 29 pars, but was only able to make one birdie. Vincent shaved six strokes off his morning score thanks to a pair of birdies on the par-4, No. 1 and 11 holes.
Liberty's final golfer in the field is Tyler Abrahamsen. He is competing as an individual and is in 61st place following a 17-over par 157 (81-76).
The Flames will be among the first golfers on the course tomorrow morning, as they go off the No. 1 tee starting at 8 a.m. Liberty will be paired with golfers from SMU and Marquette during Monday's final round of the Marquette Intercollegiate.
