The Liberty women's soccer team continued its program-best home unbeaten streak, Wednesday afternoon, defeating Campbell at Osborne Stadium, 3-1.
Sophomore forward Jennifer Knoebel played a huge role in the victory, pacing the Lady Flames attack with a goal and two assists. Freshmen Devon Jones and Alyssa Hill also posted markers for Liberty, while Brittany Aanderud added an assist for her 59th career point.
Big South leading scorer and current Attacking Player of the Week Ashley Clark recorded the lone goal for Campbell, connecting on a penalty kick late in the contest.
Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord played the opening 67:16 in the net, allowing zero goals while making three saves. Tori Collar came in for the final 22:44. Campbell netminder and Big South Defensive Player of the Week Alexis Connors spent the first 65:21 in goal for the Camels, finishing with three saves. Samantha Lawson came in for the final 24:39, garnering one save.
With the win, Liberty moves to 5-5-1 overall and first place in the Big South standings with a 3-0 conference record. The Lady Flames are currently on a three-game win streak and are 4-0-1 at home, this season. Liberty is also on a program-best 13-game unbeaten streak at Osborne Stadium, dating back to last season.
Campbell drops to 7-4 on the year and 2-1 in Big South action. Liberty now leads the all-time series, 5-4-1.
Liberty struck early, finding the back of the net in the top of the ninth minute. Aanderud sent a long through ball up to Knoebel near midfield. The sophomore went the distance, breaking away from the Campbell defense and tapping the ball into the right side of the net for the 1-0 lead. Knoebel's marker was her third of the season and second in as many games.
Knoebel decided to share the wealth nearly five minutes later, this time finding Jones. Posted on the right side, Knoebel delivered a crossing pass to Jones, who was located directly in front of the goal frame. The freshman chipped the ball into the net for her third goal of the year. Knoebel's helper marked her third straight game with an assist.
The forward was not done for the day, adding another assist to her four-point afternoon during the 51st minute. Much like the previous goal, Knoebel flicked a pass from the right side to Hill, who was in the middle of the box. Hill airmailed a shot into left corner, putting the Lady Flames ahead, 3-0. Hill's marker was the first of her career.
Campbell broke up the shutout in the 83rd minute following a foul inside the box. Clark took the penalty kick for the Camels, sailing the ball past Collar to set up the 3-1 final.
Liberty hits the road on Saturday, squaring off with UNC Asheville. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
