Sophomore Meghan Burggraf sped to a personal-best time of 2:12.70 in the women's 800-meter run Friday at the Tyson Invitational. Her ECAC-qualifying effort was Liberty's top performance inside the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Burggraf, the reigning Big South outdoor women's 800-meter champion, placed fourth in the open section of the event on Friday. She drastically improved upon her previous indoor best time of 2:16.28, moving up from No. 8 to No. 2 on the Lady Flames' all-time performance list. Burggraf now trails only former teammate Jaime Watson in program history.
Olivia Charnuski also climbed up on a Liberty women's top 10 list during Friday's action. Her personal-best 7.76 time in the 60-meter dash makes the Canadian No. 7 all-time for the Lady Flames.
On the men's side, Liberty posted a trio of top 10 finishes in field events. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Smith reached 59-1.25 in the weight throw, earning fifth place.
In the open men's long jump, Anthony Bryant went 23-3.5 for seventh place, while Clarence Powell came in 10th with a season-best jump of 22-11.75. Unfortunately for Powell, he fell less than an inch shy of the IC4A-qualifying line.
Five Liberty athletes will be in action at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday, beginning at noon Eastern with Alyssa Pegues in the women's triple jump.
