The Liberty Flames men's tennis team continued its outstanding play, running their winning streak to four straight contests, with a 5-2 win over the Longwood Lancers, at the Longwood Tennis Courts.
The Flames, 10-7, have won nine out of their last 11 matches. Longwood falls to 5-8.
Liberty opened the match by collecting the doubles point, with two wins. Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt defeated Marc Ferrigno and Milo Barajas-Alexander in the No. 1 contest, 8-4. Louis Steyn and Juan Reyes picked up the second Flames victory at No. 3, with an 8-4 win. The senior pairing remained unbeaten with the win, running its record to 8-0 for the spring.
The Flames followed their success in doubles, by recording wins in singles contests, No. 3-6, for the 5-2 win. Five of the six match-ups were decided in three sets, with the Flames' Giancarlo Lemmi, the only winner in straight sets. Lemmi recorded his 10th win of the year in the No. 3 spot in the Liberty line-up, 6-0, 6-4, over Lancer Bruno Orlandini .
Steyn won for the seventh consecutive outing, dropping David Cardoso, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, in the No. 5 spot. Reyes clinched the victory for Flames in the No. 6 contest, rallying from a set down for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Adham Halabi. Chad Simpson rounded out the Liberty singles winners, with a 7-5, 3-6, 16-14 victory at the No. 4 spot over Billy Heird.
Liberty takes a break from action until April 10, when it hosts Radford at the LU Tennis Courts. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
