Dolphins Complete Sweep with Game Two Win

Jenny Law led off the top of the first by reaching on an error by Jacksonville shortstop Shannon Monahan, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by J'nae Jefferson. After Danielle Howard walked, Keely McMillon singled to right field to load the bases with one out.
Kaylee West lofted a short fly ball to right field, allowing Law to score on the sacrifice fly. But that would be all the Lady Flames could muster in the opening frame, as the visitors stranded two runners in the top of the first as Beth Bennett struck out swinging for the third out.
The Dolphins had chances in the bottom of the first as well, and were able to capitalize to capture the lead. After Katie Kelly popped out to shortstop, Monahan walked. Novak then singled down the right field line, and advanced to second on the throw.
Designated player Ashley Mora singled to center field, scoring Monahan to tie the game, and advanced to second on the throw to the plate. After advancing to third, Novak scored on a sacrifice fly from Melissa Morales, and the Dolphins took the lead, 2-1.
The second inning was a hitfest for both teams. In the top half of the frame, Amber DePasquale regained the lead for the Lady Flames when she ripped a double to center field, scoring Kelly Strickland, who walked, and Cassie Hendrix, who reached on a Jacksonville fielding error. But DePasquale was thrown out at home on the next play, as she tried to score on Law's single to left field.
After Law moved to third on a wild pitch, she crossed the plate for the third Liberty run of the inning when Jefferson singled to left field.
But the Lady Flames could not hold onto the lead for long, as the Dolphins once again answered with two runs of their own.
Neither team added runs to the scoreboard until the sixth, when Monahan blasted a two-run home run over the center field fence to give the Dolphins a 6-4 lead.
The Lady Flames tried to rally in the top of the seventh inning. McMillon singled to right field, and pinch runner Jennifer Pittman moved to second when West walked. But Bennett was called out on an infield fly rule, and Strickland struck out swinging to end the game.
Jefferson led Liberty, batting 2-for-3 with a RBI. McMillon was 2-for-4, and Law batted 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Monahan batted 3-for-3 for the Dolphins, with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Relief pitcher Ashley Iveson picked up the win to improve to 3-5 on the year. Iveson pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.
Sarah Ellis (1-7) took the loss, giving up seven hits and striking out five batters in 5.1 innings.
With the sweep, Jacksonville's record moves to 11-12, while the two losses on the day drops Liberty's record to 4-11.
The Lady Flames are back in action tomorrow in DeLand, Fla., when Liberty takes on Stetson in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
The Hatters are led by sophomore outfielder Rachel Lowe, who is batting .268 with 11 hits, 10 RBIs and three home runs this season.
Pitcher Erica Demers (4-5) has hurled three shutouts with 63 total strikeouts in 65.1 innings pitched.
Stetson (7-11) has not played a game since February 28, when they suffered a 1-0 loss to Centenary in The Hatter Classic. The Hatters have posted wins over Kent State, Bethune-Cookman and Texas State.
