Lana Watts assumed her role as Sports Nutrition Fellow in Feb. 2025.
In her current role, she is responsible for one-on-one counseling, athlete performance meal planning, hydration testing and reviewing and recommending supplements. She also provides nutrition education through team talks, presentations and cooking demos. Additionally, she collaborates with the interdisciplinary performance and health team to navigate chronic diseases and GI issues and helps prevent and treat injuries and nutrition deficiencies.
Watts previously did an internship rotation with Virginia Tech Athletics in 2024. While there, she developed educational material and meal plans, presented team talks, conducted body composition assessments using the BodPod and hydration testing, managed daily fueling stations operations and prepared snacks and drinks for hydration tables and travel kits. Watts earned a master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Virginia Tech in Dec. 2024. She also received a bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, foods and exercise with a dietetics concentration from Virginia Tech in May 2022.
Watts is a native of Wayne, Maine and currently resides in Blacksburg, Va.
