Lyon Named as Liberty Volleyball Assistant Coach

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Former collegiate volleyball standout and Penn State graduate Addie Lyon has joined the Liberty Volleyball staff as an assistant coach, announced by Head Coach Jeremy White.
"I am really excited about the addition of Addie to our staff," White said. "She's a special person with a special story of her personal battles and triumphs over adversity as both an athlete and human. Her high-level setting experience will be a major boon to the development of our setters and overall offense. On top of that, her faith in Christ is deep and I feel she will be a phenomenal role model for the young women on our roster. Overall, Addie is a home run hire in my book."
Lyon joins the Lady Flames after finishing up her playing career at Penn State, where she played for one season. She previously played at both Missouri and Saint Louis.
"I'm really excited to join Liberty's staff and start my collegiate coaching career in a place where faith and excellence truly go together," Lyon said. "The experiences I've had and the people who've poured into me have shaped who I am and prepared me for this opportunity. I'm looking forward to building real relationships and investing in the players both on and off the court. Go Flames!"
A setter from O'Fallon, Mo., Lyon finished her playing career with 2,633 career assists, 531 digs, 81 aces and 77 blocks. She spent the 2025 season as Penn State's starting setter after transferring from Saint Louis. During her redshirt senior season with the Nittany Lions, Lyon led Penn State with 1,092 assists while distributing for an offense which hit .250 as a team. Penn State entered the NCAA Tournament ranked 25th nationally before going 1-1 at the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
She began her career at Missouri, where she started 15 matches as a freshman before redshirting the following year. Lyon then transferred to Saint Louis, where she competed for two seasons (2023, 2024) and was named A-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 16, 2023
Lyon was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2022, while also receiving the University of Missouri Heather Morris Courage Award that same year. She earned Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2023 and received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award last year.
While balancing college and volleyball, she also gained coaching experience, serving as a camp coach for Missouri's volleyball camp in 2021 and Penn State's volleyball camp in 2025. From 2023 until the present, she has coached in the USAV Open Division for the Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club, gaining experience as an assistant coach at the highest division for 15U, 17U and 18U teams.
During her time at Missouri, she participated in in the Mizzou Made Leadership Program, a competitive leadership development program. Recently, she has been a spokesperson for the NIL Huddle for Hearts program. Lyon has raised awareness about heart health, including social media outreach, in addition to representing the Peyton Walker Foundation Heart Screening.
She graduated from Saint Louis in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration: marketing, before earning a graduate certificate in business management foundations in Dec. 2025.
