Flames Facility Upgrades

During the summer of 2006, several Liberty University Athletics Department facilities will undergo some changes, giving the Flames’ home facilities a new look for the 2006-07 seasons.

Williams Stadium, home of the Flames’ football program, is getting an addition this summer as the Williams Football Operation Center will be complete by the end of July.

The court in the Vines Center, home of the volleyball and basketball programs, will by getting a face lift this summer which will including the Liberty Flames logo placed at center court.

The top level of the Hancock Athletic Center Weight Room was resurfaced during the summer, making the weight training area safer for all Liberty University's student-athletes as they train. The project was completed on July 18.

Williams Football Operation Center

Early in the spring of 2006, construction began on the Williams Football Operation Center, located in the North Endzone at Williams Stadium.

Liberty has been using a single story locker room in the South Endzone since Williams Stadium opened in 1989. However, thanks to a generous donation by Arthur L. and Angela Williams, the entire football program will be housed under one roof for the first time in the history of the program in the $4.5 million building.

The 60,000-square foot Williams Football Operation Center will be a three-story facility the will house all aspects of the football program. The first floor will house a strength and conditioning area with weight and training equipment and a large area of indoor turf that will allow for indoor practice drills.

The second floor, which will be at ground level, will include the team’s equipment room, a spacious locker room, a team lounge and a state-of-the-art athletic training area, outfitted will three hydrotherapy pools.

The top floor will house all offices for the football department, including both coaching and administrative staff, three meeting rooms for film and game preparation and a large lecture hall. This level will also include a 2,990 square feet multipurpose space with a 10’x45’ window that will face the field and allow selected patrons to view home football games.

Hancock Athletic Center Weight Room/Flag Poles

During the summer, the original flooring inside the upper level of the Hancock Athletic Center will be torn up and replaced with a brand new surface, giving Liberty University student-athletes a safer and easier to maintain area to weight train as they prepare for the seasons of competition.

Also, during the month of August, three flag poles were installed in the Hancock Athletic Center lawn. An American flag, a Virginia state flag and a Liberty Flames flag will be flown on the three flag poles.

Vines Center

 

The Vines Center, home to Liberty’s volleyball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs, is getting a face lift this summer.

 

Recently, the court was resurfaced and the Liberty Flames logo was painted at center court, while both free throw lanes were also painted with the Liberty red, white and blue school colors and the Big South Conference logo.

 

Later on this summer, the edges surrounding the basketball/volleyball playing surface will be changed with a new Mondo flooring surface.
