| Clarence Powell made his first career appearance at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. |
Liberty junior Clarence Powell completed his successful season by triple jumping at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. He failed to record a legal mark on any of his three attempts, Friday evening at Drake Stadium.
Powell, making his first appearance at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, struggled to measure his approach strides due to gusty tailwinds. As a result, he stepped over the toe board on all three triple jumps and drew a red foul flag each time.
Powell's year featured his first trip to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He was also the Big South Men's Outstanding Field Performer at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets and set Liberty's indoor (50-6) and outdoor (52-1.25) triple jump school records.
Powell's competition in Des Moines officially wraps up the 2009-10 athletic year for Liberty University. Action in 2010-11 will commence Aug. 20 at 7 p.m., when the Liberty women's soccer team visits Virginia. The first cross country/track & field event next season will be the Virginia Tech Cross Country Relay, set for Sept. 3 in Blacksburg, Va.
