| Today's Gridiron Glance takes a look at Tommy Beecher and Trey Jacobs, two seniors who will be playing in the final home game of their careers. |
November 5, 2009
Lynchburg, Va.
During today’s Gridiron Glance segment, LibetyFlames.com talks with Tommy Beecher and Trey Jacobs, two senior players will be among the 20 honored prior to the Flames’ final home game against VMI, this weekend.
This year’s senior class will be graduating as the winningest senior class in program history, as the group has posted a 30-12 record over their four-year careers. This class will go down in history as the only senior class to not have suffered a losing season during their four years on Liberty Mountain.
Jacobs is one of three defensive team captains on this year’s roster, who has played in 40 out of 42 games since he joined the roster during his freshman year in 2006. The senior has anchored Liberty’s defensive line, having started 20 career games at right end.
Coming into this weekend, Jacobs ranks seventh on the team with 28 stops, while adding three tackles for a loss, two pass breakups and one of two fumble recoveries during his career. He needs 12 more stops to crack the 100-career tackle mark, while he ranks second in program history with five blocked kicks.
Beecher is a newcomer to the Flames’ 2009 roster, as he transferred to Liberty from South Carolina after completing his undergraduate degree last spring. Liberty has won five out of seven games when Beecher has been the starting quarterback, including each game of the Flames current four-game winning streak.
Beecher is coming off one of his finer performances in a Flames uniform, as the hurler completed 15-of-17 passing attempts for 159 yards and had his first multiple touchdown passing game (2). The near perfect passing against Presbyterian helped raise his personal completion percentage and the team’s completion rate above 70 percent, allowing Liberty to lead the nation in team completion percentage (70.9 percent).
