Liberty goalkeeper Ashley Nyholt has been chosen as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the final week of regular-season competition.

The Lady Flames went 1-0-1 on the week, defeating UNC Asheville, 1-0, on Oct. 30 before tying Presbyterian, 0-0, on Nov. 1. Nyholt started both games in goal for the Lady Flames, marking her second and third starts of the year after replacing injured starting keeper Karen Blocker. The junior from Brampton, Ontario, recorded two shutouts and made 12 saves during the road trip to help Liberty clinch the 2009 Big South regular-season title for the third time in program history.

After recording seven saves against UNC Asheville, Nyholt stopped a penalty kick against Presbyterian to keep the Blue Hose from taking a lead. She kept Presbyterian scoreless for 110 minutes, as Liberty closed out the season with a scoreless double-overtime draw.

The Lady Flames enter this week’s Big South Women’s Soccer Championship as the No. 1 seed, and will take on No. 8 Winthrop on Thursday at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
