Coach's Corner with Shane Pinder (Audio Interview)
The Liberty volleyball team enters the week sitting atop the Big South Conference standings at 10-2, after a 3-0 sweep of Presbyterian on Saturday. With only four matches remaining, the Lady Flames are chasing their third consecutive Big South regular-season championship.
This weekend, Liberty will host a pair of conference foes at the Vines Center, beginning with a 7 p.m. Friday showdown against UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs are positioned directly behind the Lady Flames in the conference standings, with a 9-2 Big South mark, and defeated Liberty on Oct. 10. Gardner-Webb will then play at Liberty Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m.
Recently, head coach Shane Pinder sat down with Nick Pierce to discuss the Lady Flames’ 1-1 week and look ahead to this weekend’s home matches.
Some of the topics Pinder and Pierce discussed include:
-- An evaluation of the team's performance last week against VCU and Presbyterian
-- Nicki Scripko's stellar play in the Presbyterian match
-- Karyl Bacon reaching 1,000 career digs, and a discussion about her contributions to the program
-- The current Big South Conference standings
-- The improvements Liberty will need to make in order to defeat UNC Asheville
-- The fact that the Lady Flames are now in control of their own destiny in the Big South standings
