For the third-straight week, Liberty had multiple players honored by the Big South Conference, as quarterback Tommy Beecher and running back SirChauncey Holloway were this week's pair of league honorees.
Beecher (Sr., QB, Concord, N.C.) was named this week's Big South Offensive Player of the Week, as the senior had a near perfect game to help the Flames to a 55-19 victory over Presbyterian, Saturday afternoon, at Williams Stadium.
The quarterback completed 15-of-17 passing attempts for 159 yards, while having his first career multiple passing touchdown game with two scoring throws against the Blue Hose.
The senior's yardage on the day moved his season total over the 1,000-yard mark (1,019 passing yards), while his success rate against Presbyterian helped push his season completion percentage over the 70 percent mark (70.1).
His successful completion percentage on the afternoon helped Liberty's team completion percentage rise to 70.9 percent, which currently leads the nation in the statistical category. Beecher also ran the ball six times for 10 yards, including a five-yard touchdown scamper for his second scoring run of the year.
Holloway (Fr., RB, Seffner, Fla.) became the third Flame this year to capture Big South Freshman of the Week honors, doing so after a career day against the Blue Hose.
The running back led the Flames rushing attack, which rushed for 232 yards and five touchdowns during the victory. Individually, Holloway finished the game with career high marks in carries (12) and rushing yards (99).
The rookie scored twice, marking his second multiple rushing touchdown game of the year and pushes his season total to five scoring runs.
The yardage figure against the Blue Hose more than doubled what he had totaled coming into the game, as he had rushed 19 times for 86 yards in four previous contests. He was one of three players to average more than eight yards per carry (8.2).
Joining Beecher and Holloway also this week as Big South honorees were Stony Brook defensive back Arin West, who was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Charleston Southern return specialist Antwan Ivey, who was named this week's Special Teams Player of the Week.
Liberty has now received 11 weekly honors throughout the 2009 season, which is more than any other program in the league. Gardner-Webb ranks second behind the Flames with nine weekly award winners during this year's campaign.
Beecher and Holloway will look to close out the home portion of the 2009 scheduled with a fourth-straight home victory on Saturday, when the Flames host in-state foe VMI at 7 p.m.
