Side Out with Jessica Nelson

Jessica Nelson will be one of three Lady Flames (along with Carmen Streeper and Ashley Webber) recognized at Saturday's Senior Day ceremony, prior to Liberty's 2 p.m. home match versus Winthrop.

Today, LibertyFlames.com continues its weekly volleyball feature, "Side Out with …" Next up is senior outside hitter Jessica Nelson.

Jessica Nelson recently made a bit of history, becoming the eighth Liberty volleyball player and the first since current assistant coach Jennifer (Belk) Vaden to exceed 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs during her career. The native of Tokyo, Japan has recorded six double-doubles this season and put down 14 kills against nationally ranked Kansas State.

Last season, Nelson played a key role in Liberty's first Big South Championship since 2001. She made the Big South all-tournament team and ranked among the conference's top 10 players in both digs (sixth) and kills (eighth). Nelson also made the Big South All-Academic Team a season ago.

Nelson will be one of three players recognized before this Saturday's home volleyball match against Winthrop. Nelson, Carmen Streeper and Ashley Webber will be honored prior to the opening serve, as part of Liberty's Senior Day festivities. The match begins at 2 p.m.
