Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty pitcher Ryan Page has been selected in the 20th round of the Major League Baseball Draft this afternoon by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Page, who this spring completed his final season with the Flames, becomes the 37th player in Liberty history to be taken in the MLB draft and the first to be drafted by the Blue Jays organization.
This past season, the left-hander posted a 5-5 record with a 2.76 ERA over 81 2/3 innings. The senior finished third in the Big South Conference and led Liberty in ERA. In 16 appearances, 12 of which were starts, the Cranberry Twp., Pa., native, struck out 77 batters and walked only 17, a 4.52 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The southpaw also led the Big South and the Flames with three complete games. He was honored as the Big South Pitcher on the Week of May 5.
With Page’s selection, Liberty has now had players taken in every Major League Baseball Draft since 2000.
