Kenneth Negron had two hits Tuesday night.

James Madison led from start to finish, as five Dukes pitchers combined to down the Liberty Flames, 4-0, Tuesday night at Worthington Stadium.

With the setback in the non-conference contest, Liberty falls to 14-16 on the year. James Madison improves to 22-8.

James Madison broke on top in the second inning. With one out, designated hitter Trevor Knight lifted his first collegiate home run over the left-center field wall for a 1-0 Dukes lead.

In the fourth frame, Liberty loaded the bases with one out. However, Duke pitcher John Mincone was able to induce the next batter into a third-to-home-to-first double play to end the inning, preserving James Madison’s one-run edge.

The Dukes took advantage of a Liberty error in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 2-0. With one out, Matt Browning reached on a fielding miscue by Flames third baseman Cody Brown (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla.). Catcher Brett Garner followed with a double to the left-center field gap, scoring Browning.

James Madison added to its advantage in the seventh frame. Knight singled to the open the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a walk to third baseman McKinnon Langston, Browning laid down a sacrifice bunt, on which Knight continued running past third base and ended up scoring. The next batter, Garner, singled to plate Langston, giving the Dukes a 4-0 lead.

Liberty starter Ryan Page (Sr., LHP, Cranberry Twp., Pa.) takes the loss to drop to 1-4 on the year. The left-hander gave up two runs, one earned, in six innings of work, striking out two and walking one. James Madison starter Kurt Houck, the first of five Duke hurlers, boosts his record to 3-1 with the victory.

Kenneth Negron (Jr., 2B, Kingwood, Texas) had two hits for Liberty. Knight and Garner posted two hits each for James Madison.

Liberty travels up the road to visit No. 19 Virginia tomorrow night. First pitch at Davenport Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
