Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty University Head Wrestling Coach Jesse Castro has announced the signing of Scott Clymer to a national letter of intent for the 2007-08 academic year.
"To have someone come to Liberty with Scott's accomplishments is a huge addition to our team,” stated Castro. “It is not every day a Pennsylvania state champion shows up in any program. What I like about Scott is his passion for wrestling, but more important is his desire to grow in his personal faith. I believe his personality and his passion to excel will add to the team dynamic in a great way.”
Clymer recently completed a stellar four-year wrestling career at Northwestern High School, where he tallied a 151-20 record (88.3 winning percentage). He dotted his high school resume by placing three years at the Pennsylvania state tournament.
Clymer started his career at 103 pounds as a freshman, posting a 31-1 record. During his first year at the varsity level, he finished first at both the district and regional tournaments and fifth at the state tournament, helping him garner Morning Call All-Area team honors.
As a sophomore, Clymer wrestled at 112 pounds, compiling a 33-6 mark, which included a first-place finish at the district level, a second-place finish in regional action and a qualifying invitation to the state tournament.
Clymer, a native of Germansville, Pa., posted a 40-9 record as a junior at 125 pounds, finishing second at the Nazareth Invitational and third at the Hurricane Classic. He capped off the year by finishing first at the state tournament, including an 8-2 decision in the championship bout.
Prior to his senior year, Clymer wrestled as a part of the MAWA Blue Team at Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports Complex. He helped his squad to a team championship and was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler.
Clymer capped off his high school career by posting his highest win total, with a 47-4 record, while finishing first at both the district and regional tournaments and third at the state championship. Wrestling at 135 pounds, Clymer posted his second-straight runner-up finish at the Nazareth Invitational and was third at both the Reno Tournament of Champions and the Hurricane Bethlehem Classic.
