Jason Eaker enters his fifth season at Liberty and third as an assistant coach after being retained by new head coach Dale Layer. Eaker has served as an assistant for Liberty for the past two seasons, helping the Flames to 39 wins, the third-most wins over a two year period in program history and second-best during the Division I era. Lib¬erty won 43 games during the 1979 and 1980 seasons, and 40 games during the 1996 and 1997 campaigns.
"Jason brings great experience to our program," commented Layer. "It is tremendous for everybody that Jason wanted to return to Liberty and be part of my staff. He possesses passion for the game and he gets productiv¬ity out of our players. Jason is responsible for most of the players we have in our program and it was terrific working with him in the past as he helps with every facet of the program."
Eaker first joined the Liberty men's basketball program for the 2006 season as the director of basketball op¬erations, a position he held for two seasons. When former head coach Ritchie McKay took over the program in March of 2007, he hired both Layer, a mentor of his, and Eaker as assistant coaches. The appointment was Eaker's first full-time coaching gig at the collegiate level. Eaker was a graduate assistant on Oklahoma's 2005 Big XII regular season championship team.
"I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity to continue as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator here at Liberty under Coach Layer's leadership," said Eaker. "Coach Layer instantly became a mentor to me after Coach McKay hired the both of us two years ago. Coach Layer has great experience in his coaching career, and couple that with his familiarity with Liberty and his most recent experience in the BIG EAST at Marquette, Liberty hit a home run in hiring him. Having recruited most of our players and coached all of them over the last four years, we have won more games each season I have been here and next year my expectation will be the same."
Eaker is 2004 graduate of Texas-Pan American, earning his bachelors' degree in history. Prior to graduat¬ing from Texas-Pan American, Eaker was a two-year starter at Hardin Simmons, a Baptist-affiliated college in Abilene, Texas, where he was an American Southwest All-Conference selection in 2002 and a two-time honoree on the ASC All-Academic team. Eaker started his collegiate career at Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Okla., where he was a letterwinner in 2000.
Eaker is a native of Altus, Okla., graduating from Altus High School in 1999, where he is the third-leading scorer in school history.
Eaker married the former Meredith Hollyfield on June 14, 2008, and the couple resides in Forest, Va.
